Envision X Vendesto

Last year 2019, the two most renowned departmental fests of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, ENVISON& VENDESTO came together. The Firstedition of the Departmental Fest-ENVISION X VENDESTO'19 was held on 20th &21st September, 2019.The fest was initiated by the opening ceremony of ENVISION X VENDESTO 2019 organized by the Department of Management and the Department of Commerce.There were various events organized during the two days of the fest like, Corporate Roadies, Barter It Up (Trade your clutter), My Vyavsay (Business plan competition), Mad Over Marketing (Test your marketing skills), Xavier’s Premier League (Cricket players' auction) Ad-Venture(Make an ad on the spot), Clash of Plans (Trade warfare), On Spot Entrepreneur (On spot selling), Repartee (Debating competition), Quibble (Quiz competition).The main aim of thisfest is to promote & enable the learners to improve at man-management & showcase creative thinking abilities.

Department Newsletter: C Buzz

The Department of Commerce worked to bring out the official newsletter C-Buzz highlighting the events in and around the college and generating creative content from the students. C-Buzz is the touchstone that certainly enables to know where we are and whatwe can do in the field of finance and accounts, mingled with aim to provide exposure to students.It is an additional tool of input to enrich the students’ knowledge and their access to further sources of information. This interesting think piece forms a bridge between flowing thoughts and artistic magnification highlighting the educational, cultural and sports activities. It represents the creative side of our students to a fair degree –something that we think we all need to reconnect with.

Extension Activities

In order to expand the horizons from regular classroom teaching to practical training, theCommerce department organizes so many extension activities every year.Some of the practices undertaken by the department to ensure pragmatic learning includes:

  • 1.Industrial visits

    Industrial Visit focuses on preparing the students to learn about the day-to-day workings of a particular industry and understand its operational issues. The visit also helps the students to keep update regarding the current management practices followed by the organizations and acquire traits that the industry demands from them

  • 2.Guest lectures/Seminars

    Students are exposed to knowledge from other exceptional professors and students. We invite guests from all over India to motivate the students and help them see a new perspective of things.

  • 3.Research work

    The department puts in a lot of emphasis on the value of submitting research papers and supports the students in every way possible to complete their paper and get it published. The students are given proper guidance and support.

  • 4.Department fest:

    Fest conducts a lot ofCompetitions which are a healthy way for students to test their ability and skills in various fields like marketing, public relations etc.

Poster Making Competition on Corona Awareness

Date of Event - 1/9/2020

A poster making Competition was organized by the Department of Commerce on the theme Student’s Role in Tackling Covid-19. Total 18 students participated in this competition. Neha Pascal from the Department of Political Science got the first position. There was a tie for second position. Srishti Srivastav from Department of Commerce and Shashi Meena from Political Science stood second.

Corona Awareness Program

Date of Event - 5/9/2020

The Department of Commerce of organized the Teachers’ Day, Mother Teresa’s Memorial Day, and COVID-19 Awareness Programme with the theme, ‘Spreading Facts, not Fear’. The eminent speakers in the panel included Dr Suneet Singh Ranawat, Deputy Superintendent, SMS Hospital and Registrar, Rajasthan Medical Council, Mr Ravi Prakash Meharda IPS, Additional DGP, Civil Rights, Rajasthan Police, Mr. Jagdeesh Chandra IAS, CMD, First India News, and Dr. Girija Singh, Psychologist and they discussed the facts related to the disease, its impact on the society, the precautions to be taken, and the psychological and social ramifications of the same.

Webinar- The Power of Body Language

Date of Event - 25/9/2020

The Department of Commerce organized a webinar on understanding the personality of different individuals by observing their body language. Google Meet was chosen as a platform for conducting the live webinar on the topic “How to read a Person like a Book – The Power of Body Language.” Anthropologist, Ms. Harsha Rohit, who is also the Director of training and business development –India and Civility Training in India, was the resource person for the webinar.

Career Counselling Session (TIME Institute)

Date of Event - 26/9/2020

The Department of Commerce organized a career counselling session titled “MBA as a Career Option”. This informative session was addressed by Mr. Kapil Dixit Trainer, Mentor & Career Counsellor at T.I.M.E. Institute, Jaipur. He talked about the wider aspects of pursuing MBA and how one has to be on his/her toes to understand and analyze the intricacies of this field. All the factors affecting the choice of the students were addressed and the myths and superstitions regarding the choices were removed to a large extent. The session was very fruitful and helped students in getting a clear picture of what career path they might pursue in the near future.

Alumni Interaction Session-Life with Bucket List

Date of Event - 20/10/2020

The idea of alumni associations evolved out of needs from both academicians and professionals with a view to building a bridge between college life and career life so that fresher graduates are made proactive to face the current challenges of the present competitive professional world. Both shall work hand in hand to help each other to achieve the goal. The idea took shape on 20 th October 2020 during an illuminating interactive session which was organized by the Department of Commerce as an Online Alumni Talk Show: Life with a bucket list. The guest speaker of the session was Sri Rajat Dangayach, Deputy Manager (E-commerce and digital marketing) at HDFC. He talked on topics varying from mental health to career choices and spoke on the importance of investing time well and taking risks. The entire College went down the memory lane to share experiences laced with nostalgia on how St. Xavier's College groomed them in academics and also inculcated values that helped cement their successful careers.

Virtual Industrial Visit

Date of Event - 5/11/2020

An industrial visit was organized by department for taking up a new structure and challenge of the virtual world, to the wondrous realm of rugs at JAIPUR RUGS. The visit was led the way by Ms. Himanshi Singh, Marketing Manager and Ms. Shreya Jain, Assistant Marketing Manager at Jaipur rugs. They briefed us about their unique business plan, applauded around the globe. Built on the bedrock values of their founding father, it combines the pursuit of profit with the spreading of kindness in a way that benefits all the stakeholders. To their unrivalled products, unique designs and how they carry a fusion between the traditional and the contemporary styles.

Envision X Vendesto- Departmen tal Fest

“An aim in life is the only fortune worth finding; it can't be found in the foreign lands but in the heart itself”- Robert Louis Stevenson Deeply moved by the words that express such passion, we at Xavier’s find ourselves in a constant striving to thrive for ingenuity and individuality. Each year we look forward to an intriguingly brilliant event of ideating and sharing at the ’ENVISION X VENDESTO’, an event organized by the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Department of Management. The two-day event started on Monday in the virtual presence of an august gathering of Jesuit authorities, respected faculties, esteemed guests and the students.

The events lined up for the days of 9th and 10th of November, 2020, deliberated over the new challenges we are encountering on the virtual platform that has become pervasive in the post-Covid world. ANUBHAV: The talk show, amassed a huge footfall as Arjun Deshpande, founder and CEO of Generic Aadhaar, a philanthropist and an innovator, hooked the aspiring minds with his riveting talk on relieving oneself from the pressure from parents, peers and society and focusing on what lies within to ignite one’s spark and passion.

The fest provided a great learning curve for the students, besides doubling up as a vessel of fond memories. This year was extra special as students from haloed educational institutions such as Narsi Monjee, Manipal, SKIT, DU, Amity, JKLU, Bhowanipore, Maharani, Mithibai and our very own St Xavier's, Nevta, participated in the event. Other nifty mentions include the likes of MPS, St Anslem, Jayshree Periwal and Xavier's who encouraged their students to participate in a celebration of brainstorming and sharing of ideas.

The setting sun brought the curtains down on the two-day event on Tuesday. Reverend Fr. Varkey Perekkatt addressed the attendees followed by, Rev. Fr Dr. Sherry George, S.J. Thereafter, Thereafter, Reverend Fr A Rex Angelo, Principal, St Xavier’s College, Jaipur, lit up the room and instilled the students with motivation and hope with his talk on the importance of practical exposure in student life.

Alumni Interaction Session- Career in Law

Law helps us to survive as a society. It is the pillar that has given rise to harmony and cohesion. Through the law, we survive yet thrive. It is a necessity. Our realistic society is a heterogeneous mixture of all kinds of people, people who look to disturb the balance of the natural society. It is here that law plays a very important role in restoring that delicate balance to society and making the lives of the people living together cohesive. The idea took shape in an illuminating and interactive session which was organized by the department of Commerce, Alumni Session: Career in Law, Dream the future. The guest speaker of the session was Adv. Aditi Khandelwal, Advocate specializing in civil and company law matters and has conducted important matters before the Rajasthan High Court, High Court of Delhi and other States and various Tribunals like Telecom Tribunal, Consumer Courts, Debt Recovery Tribunal, Competition Commission and National Green Tribunal, on behalf of her education.

Webinar- Consumer Awareness

The ideal notion of Customer is the King is facing the major threat in today's era. Consumers are being exploited and cheated. It is here that law plays a very important role in restoring the faith of consumers and the sellers. Consumer Laws seek to protect consumers from the fraudulent activities and delicate balance to society and making the lives of both buyers and sellers cohesive. The idea took shape in an illuminating and interactive session which was organized by the Xavier’s Consumer Club in association with the Department of Commerce, on the topic “Consumer or Being Consumed? Basics of the most ignored: Consumer laws!”The session was taken by the guest speaker, Advocate Shubham Kumar Sharma, who’s practicing as an Advocate in Rajasthan’s High court. He threw light on the most ignored consumer laws. The students learned about various aspects of being a consumer.

Poster Making Competition

Date of Event - 26/12/2020

Poster Making competition was organized by SAP club in collaboration with the Department of Commerce in order to initiate the creativity towards students for driving college towards water management and develop eco-friendly practices, so that the students can become powerful proponents of environment conservation. The Water Management Club programs in colleges that specifically focus on water conservation for the current year are an ideal way to guide learners on a meaningful route towards environmental protection. .

National Symposium

Date of Event - 22/12/20

The Department of Commerce organized its second National Symposium on the virtual platform based on the theme “Post COVID World: Implications and Challenges” comprised of various subthemes like human capital with emphasis on education and health care, business resilience in the post COVID-19 world, human resource sustainability, government strategies and their effect on economic sector. The students presented their papers across these themes and also interacted with the eminent keynote speakers Dr. Sabyasachi Dasgupta and Prof. Maya Salimath about implications and challenges in post COVID world. With great enthusiasm, the much-awaited souvenir witnessed a digital release followed by exuberant research paper presentations by the students with an enlightening question and answer session.

Workshop- Soft skill training Program

Date of Event - 19-29/1/2020

Every youth has the potential to make a difference in their personal lives as well as the community around them. Rubicon “Connect with Work” Program supported by Barclays which was done in collaboration with St .Xavier’s College Jaipur aimed at improving the employability skills of the youth. Under this program, students were trained by Corporate Trainers to enhance their Life skills which helped them significantly to increase their chance of succeeding in a job interview. It also inculcated building upon the basic soft skills that are required by every student while appearing for the recruitment process of any company. Soft skills are identified as the most critical skills in the current global job market especially in the fast moving era of technology. These skills include Personal Interviews, SWOT (Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat) Analysis, Writing & Communication skills, Resume Writing, Group Discussions, Report writing and Presentation Skills. It was organized from 19 th January to 29 th of January online on the Zoom app by the company itself for the final and pre final year students.

Alumni Interaction Session- From trial to Triumph

An interactive session which was organized by the Department of Commerce, Alumni Session: From trial to triumph, on 8th February 2021.The guest speaker of the session was Jude Weston, the Assistant Producer at News laundry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from St. Xavier's College in 2018. In his time at Xavier's, he also steered numerous associations. A pioneer, so they say was he indeed. He talked about topics varying from inner strength and perseverance to career and life as we see it. He reflected on the importance of investing time in oneself and taking risks. The entire college went down the memory lane to share experiences laced with nostalgia on how Xavier's College groomed them in academics and inculcated values that helped cement their successful careers.

Guest Lecture on Career Guidance- Catapult your Career

Date of Event - 5/3/2021

The Department of Commerce organized a guest lecture on Career Guidance on the topic “Catapult your Career”. The interactive session was held on the virtual platform to ignite the young minds for insights on the further career options. The resource person for the session was CA Nikhil Nainani who is currently working as a professional corporate trainer in Pune Institute of Business Management. CA Nikhil elaborated on academic excellence that puts students in the race to get good grades, making them so engrossed in their activities that they dangerously ignore the importance of orienting themselves towards the career path. Because of societal pressure and peer expectations when it comes to choosing an acceptable profession, it has become a norm in today’s competitive and cut throat environment that students often harbor the guilt for pursuing their own interests. Career counseling is therefore regarded as an effective tool to realize their true potential. Students actively participated during the session and followed by the questions and answers round in regard to the various career options.

Add-On Course

Date of Event - March 20-21

To Bridge the gap between theory and practical learning the department has started the Add-on course on Tally. This course has enabled students to understand the accounting through Tally software. This is so widely used that it has become important for the students seeking jobs in the finance department to learn Tally to the advanced level This course was open for all the streams. 15 students have successfully completed it. It was conducted by Shree Ram Tally Academy. The students were awarded certificates for this.

Bridge Course

Date of Event - 28/9/2020-9/10/2020

The department offers a bridge course in Basic Accountancy for non-commerce background students. The main objective of this course is to bring non-commerce students at par with those who had accounts in 12th standard. This will help non- commerce students to have a basic understanding of the accounting concepts before their regular classes begin. This course enables the study of basic accounts and applying them to business theory in general. It aims to provide the accounting foundations necessary for business, and finance. It will help in mastering basic concepts of financial and business accounting.

Webinar –Stock Market

Date of Event - 21/8/2021

An interactive session was organized on Stock Markets, on 21 st August 2021. The guest speaker of the session was Mr. Venkata Sri Harsha, Founder, MD & CEO of Shine Projects, is a qualified stock market analyst as well as a specialist in macroeconomics.  As Students being the beginners in investing, learnt even a small investment, if made properly can reap huge profits in the future and can act as a source of regular income. The session enriched every attendee with the world of the stock markets.

Alumni Interaction Session-Believe in Possibilities

Date of Event - 28/8/2021

The Department of Commerce organized an alumni interaction on 28 August 2021 on ‘Believe in Possibilities’. The speaker of the session was Mr. Lakshaya Arora (Batch 2015-2017), Youtuber and Podcaster - Pink City Podcast (First Podcast Channel in Jaipur). The session focused on believing in one’s own potential and possibilities of touching the sky. Mr. Arora shared his philosophy of achieving the possibilities that one should know which game they are choosing, and how they are playing and reaching the top by learning the game. The valuable insights and experiences shared by Mr. Lakshya Arora helped students to believe in achieving the out of reach possibilities. He also mentioned that one should think out of the box in order to survive in today’s competitive world. The session was informative and interactive which motivated the students to work in the direction of achieving what they are aiming at.

Alumni Interaction Session-Balance is the key to Success

An online Alumni Interaction Session was organized on the topic “Balance is the Key to Success” on 29th September 2021. The session was addressed by Ms. IRAVADI SHARMA currently employed as Tax Consultant, Deloitte, Hyderabad. She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from St. Xavier's College in 2018 and also bagged the title of Xavierite of the year in 2018. She talked about various dimensions of life varying from inner strength and perseverance to career and life as we see it. The entire college went down the memory lane to share experiences laced with nostalgia on how Xavier's College groomed them in academics and inculcated values that helped cement their successful careers.

Banking Conclave- Indian Banking Scenario: The Road Ahead in Nation-building

Date of Event - 18/10/2021

The commerce club of the Department of Commerce took one step further in this direction by organizing the first edition of the banking conclave on October 18, 2021. The event was centered on the theme of “Indian Banking Scenario: Student moderators, greeted the esteemed panelists, Dr Thangeraja, Mr Tanuj Poddar and Dr R Latha. The attendees were first introduced to the Indian banking system and how it has fared through time. The panelists discussed the same with the effect they had on the end users and how they have been coerced into adapting with the digitized world, be it for the better or for worse. The curtains came down on the enthralling session after an expansive Q and A session with the moderators and panelists.

Industrial Visit- Bella Casa

Date of Event - 27/11/2021

The Department of Commerce organized an industrial visit of 47 students to Bella Casa Fashion and Retail Ltd, situated in the Sitapura Industrial Area. It established in the year 1957, which has garnered a name for itself over the years, in the retail industry. Formulated to fulfil desires of comfort and luxury, it has seamlessly amalgamated traditional and modern contemporary characters into the finest bedding textiles. Students were briefed about the firm’s business plans, which combined the pursuit of profit with unrivalled quality.. As the visit progressed, the students toured through the numerous divisions such as manufacturing, design, assembly and dispatch all whilst querying the moderators about the functioning of the same. The visit came to a close with an expansive Q&A session with the CEO of Bella Casa, Mr Saurav Gupta, he tethered with the students to the importance of commerce to the nation at large as well as answered questions about his domain of work, leaving the students in awe of his eloquence and knowledge.

Envision X Vendesto- Departmental Fest

Each year we look forward to an intriguingly brilliant event of ideating and sharing at the ’ENVISION X VENDESTO’, an event organized by the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Department of Management. The event then segued in an awe-inspiring talk show by the chief guests and our speakers for the day to exchange dialogues on the topic, “The event was a great success where more than 1500 participants enthusiastically took part from many prestigious colleges across the nation. More than 15 events were part of this fest which allowed the participants to keep a high level of mind and maintain a great sense of camaraderie. Some of the sublime and scintillating nits and grits were Corporate Roadies, Squiz Games, XPL, Banter on Bow, Recruitedia, MOM and a few others. The Overall Winners Trophy was awarded to J.K Laxmipath University wherein the Trophy for College with Maximum Participation was secured by JECRC University.

Webinar- Role of Investment Banking in Indian Economy

A webinar was organized on the topic “The Role of Investment Banking in Indian Economy" on 4th December, 2021. The main objective of this session is to provide students with the necessary theoretical and conceptual tools used in investment banking and general understanding of investment banking activities and the mechanics and financial analysis required to value, negotiate and successfully close transactions. Mr. Ashish Kaw, Regional Head, Imarticus Learning, resource person talked about various aspects of Investment Banking especially lucrative for those students who are pursuing a career in investment banking.

Alumni Webinar –Consumer Rights and Recent Developments

A webinar was organized by the Xavier’s Consumer Club in association with the Department of Commerce, on the topic “Consumer Rights & Recent Developments" in view of National Consumer Day on 24th December, 2021 at 11 am. The main objective of this session is to spread awareness and realization among students about their duties and responsibilities as Citizens of India .The session was taken by Dr. Anju Gahlot, Former Principal, Department of Law, University of Rajasthan & Member of International Lawyers Association, London. She talked about various consumer rights and the ways in which one can seek redressal if required. She also threw light on the recent developments in this direction. The event graciously dropped its curtain after a wholesome question-answer session.

Expert Session on Start-ups: Valuation of upcoming Champions

Department of Commerce, St.Xaviers College- Jaipur organized a webinar on "Startups- Valuation of Upcoming Champions" with an expert speaker CA Harsha Ramnani on Thursday, 13th January, 2021.She briefed the participants about what are the basic needs to launch a startup and how important it is for any developing country. She was interested with the participants and also enhanced their knowledge on how the valuation of start-ups is really important. Then the emcees declared the floor open for queries and the participants asked their queries to the speakers.

Two Day taxation Workshop Titled ‘Tax Legislation: Basics & Beyond’

Date of Event - 28-29/01/22

An active and informed community supports diffusion and dissemination by encouraging discord and discussions, essential to the growth. The Department of Commerce organized a two-day workshop, on the 28th-29th of January, indulging in such dialogues and discussion titled ‘Tax Legislation: Basics and Beyond.’ The resource person for the first day, CA Paresh Gupta, initiated the session on ‘Start-ups and Tax Exemption’. He focused on the new tax reforms for the startups and imparted the knowledge of the tax laws and systems pertaining to the various markets as well as to explore various techniques in tax planning. . With uniform enthusiasm, the workshop continued to day two. The resource person for day two was Dr Dilip Gupta, who acquainted the students with ‘Return Filing’, venturing into the empirical aspect of taxation. He also emphasized on filing returns as an annual activity including moral and social duty of every responsible citizen of the country.

Add on Course- TALLY PRIME with GST

Date of Event - January- April 2022
